Audio composing as a means of accessing techno-rhetoric
This poster session maps how two teachers implemented a techno-rhetoric approach into their first-year composition classes by integrating audio essay assignments. Students designed, edited, and revised public service announcements and audio remixes of a novel. Through these assignments, students made explicit the materials, processes, and embodied labor that factor into delivery choices (such as layering and negotiating multiple sound files--including voice, music, sound effects, and silence). This poster also addresses how assessing audio projects became a collaborative act where these classes collectively designed rubrics. These rubrics, along with student samples and reflections, will be included in this session.
